R7 bay window installation

Residence 7 windows installation in Watford, Hertfordshire

If you are having replacement windows fitted you will rightly demand the best and most efficient installation.

Well, here at Enfield Windows we are meeting that demand with the help of an exciting and relatively new product – the “Residence” range of replica timber windows.

The R7 and R9, as they’re known, are based on the depth and scale of the original timber frames, so that new windows can be fitted without all the mess and bother of cutting back the internal plaster line.

Fantastic Product

This makes the Residence range the ideal solution for replacement windows in period properties. They are beautifully engineered, offer fantastic insulation and look good enough to be used in conservation areas.

One of our clients had original windows, dating back to the 1930s, on his house in Watford, and was looking to replace all the windows at the front with high-end replica frames. After searching online, he came across the Residence range.

These are arguably the leading brand in uPVC replica timber windows. They are handcrafted using the very best materials and specification best suited to original windows with flush sashes — mechanical joins, a bespoke range of handles, working and dummy butt hinges — every detail is based on original timber windows.

Insurance policy

The choice of colour our client favoured was a soft cream to match the original fascias and soffits. Our sales team set about obtaining a quotation based on the colour, opening configurations, and choice of hardware.

On receipt of our invoice, Enfield Windows registered the installation with the IBG Insurance backed guarantee scheme. This is a policy that covers the installation for 10 years plus monies paid.

The survey was then booked the following week, when our fully trained surveyor noted the final dimensions for manufacturing, which would include, among many details, the depth of the fanlight angles for the bay window sills.

Installation booked

Our surveyor also took photographs and listed any specific items and trims to enable the installation to proceed with minimum fuss and disruption.

After the survey, the order goes through to order processing and once processed and fully checked it is signed off and sent over to the manufacturers ready for production. The lead time for the R7 and R9 is generally six weeks, though some suppliers can vary.

The installation itself was carried out over two days, in which we replaced the lounge and front bedroom seven-part bay windows and a further single front bedroom window.

Happy client!

The completed pictures show how the R7 window is a great match to the original timber without the maintenance hassles. Our client was delighted with the installation and was full of compliments for our hardworking team.

Grey Origin bifold door

Origin Bifold doors, windows and Masterdor installation north London

Another recent installation by Enfield windows was in the North London area. We were recommended to the customer by the prestigious high-end building company, A&R Designs.

The brief for A&R Designs was to create a contemporary modern extension using high quality products throughout. Enfield Windows were first invited to the property to examine the initial requirements and to understand exactly what the client wanted to achieve.

At the rear of the property, the client wanted a large four-part set of Origin Aluminium bifold doors, opening up into the garden. They also wanted three Origin windows running down the side access, which were all part of the new extension.

In the hallway, to keep in tune with the original theme, the client opted to use the Residence 9 Window, a stunning timber replica totally maintenance free while not compromising on the features you would expect from a traditional looking window.

The internal front door was to be replaced using the Masterdor, an engineered factory finished timber door. This product is fast becoming the new alternative to uPVC composite doors.

The measurements were taken, and a fully detailed quotation was sent within 48 hrs.

The client accepted our competitive quote. They then visited the showroom to view all the products and get a firm feel for the quality each item offered.

While at the showroom the client had decided to install the Origin blinds. These are electronically operated blinds and are a great addition to any Origin product. Controlled using a compact remote, they can function independently or in tandem. They not only offer shade and privacy but add a real wow factor to any windows or doors and come in over 200 fabric ranges ensuring a match for any scheme.

Installation

After completing the contract and finalising the details, a survey was carried out. Within three weeks, the majority of the products were installed as and when  the building contractor required them.

The whole installation ran smoothly and efficiently. All items were installed by our Origin trained fitters, and the completed pictures show how the products add to the overall quality of finish to the stunning new extension.

Commercial window R9 windows

Commercial windows installation in London

The London College of Fashion in Shoreditch, London

Enfield windows most recent commercial window installation was at the London College of Fashion, Shoreditch. We were invited to tender via email and ask to provide a detailed quotation for the windows to be replaced on the upper storey of the historic college.

Being situated in central London the college is steeped in history and due to it’s size and age it falls within conservation restrictions for historic London buildings. A total of thirteen windows were scheduled to be changed on the upper floor some 120ft up, with five of the windows having a height of over 3.5 meters. There was also other large frames windows, with three arched windows also part of the project.

Our installations manager and sales manager arranged to meet the contractors on site to take measurements in order to obtain an accurate competitive cost for the project. Maintenance and good insulation were high on the requirements for the project. The client and the college opted to go for the residence 9 windows.

Residence 9 windows

Residence 9 or R9 as they are also known, are fast becoming the popular choice for customers and clients wishing to update their original windows. Residence 9 windows are state of the art high performance replica UPVC windows. Their frames are entirely based on traditional windows but they offer as standard a 95mm deep frame, which is 25mm deeper than the standard UPVC window. This detail alone gives the glazing bars and frame more depth thus giving the window more character. A further advantage of a deep frame is it’s ability to offer an energy efficient nine chambers whereas typical UPVC offers between only three and seven chambers.

R9 windows are hand made from start to finish. Unlike standard UPVC windows, the frame section is mechanically joined. This form of manufacturing eliminates the need for heat machined welds typically found on the standard UPVC frames. Another significant detail is that these windows have the Conservation seal of approval.

After our proposal, a detailed an accurate cost was agreed by the college and client and we set about drawing up an order to go into manufacturing.

Installation

The time frame to carry out the scheduled installation was very tight. Every aspect of the project had to be diligently checked and confirmed before the order was signed off. One of the leading R9 manufacturers – WindowTech helped every step of the way. From detailed drawings of glass and astragal bar layouts to advice on the products limits and suitability plus working with us in scheduling the delivery of the frames to suit each phase of the installation as it took place.

Another requirement was to introduce Tele-flex for seven of the large windows. Tele-flex is a chain linked operating system that allows all unreachable or inaccessible openers to be operated by simply turning a low level handle which in turn is operated via a discreet chain directly to the window locking mechanism some 8ft up. Enfield Windows were responsible for overseeing this part of the project via a subcontractor chosen by ourselves to carry out the work.

Overall the installation was carried out over two weeks during which time the project was overseen by the directors and office staff who made regular site visits to ensure the project was on track

Further work

As a result of the work carried out Enfield Windows have been awarded a contract to carry out another phase on the upper floor level which will be surveyed this Sunday 31st May and is due to start early July.

Residence 9 windows in north London

Residence 9 Window installation in Enfield, north London

One of Enfield Windows most recent projects was to replace all the windows in the house from original timber casement windows to a maintenance free window system. The client was aware of the Residence 9 window, a product relatively new to the industry.

Residence 9 (R9) offer a specialist frame that allows consumers to replicate the original look of timber casement windows but with a highly efficient, secure and maintenance free product. Such is the detail of the R9 windows they have been awarded with Conservation Approval. This means they can be used in homes where other uPVC windows would have been forbidden.

Unlike the mass produced uPVC systems produced by machinery, every R9 frame is bespoke and hand made from the frame to the glazing beads which is what gives these windows the look of a traditionally hand crafted window.

The project

For the windows the customer decided on white grain internally and externally with white gaskets and Georgian fan lights to match the original windows. The front door was from the Solidor range and the central glass was made bespoke to match the original front door. Photos of each unit were sent to our stained glass suppliers who replicated the originals to perfection as you can see in the pictures.

 Installation

The installation was carried out over four days during which time we carefully installed the windows to the highest standard. A further site visit was made to install the front door glass once it was completed from the suppliers. As a whole, the job ran smoothly from start to finish and as the finished pictures show the house now looks exactly how it did originally. However it now has added benefits of the warmth that the nine chambered “A rated” Residence 9 windows offer, and of course the paint free maintenance and security.
