Look at any house from the street and one of the first things you’ll notice is the state of the windows.

Misted old glass and peeling frames make a house look neglected — just as a bright new installation will transform the look of a home, perhaps adding tens of thousands of pounds to its value.

Enfield Windows are proud to share one of our latest timber installations, in the Winchmore Hill area of North London. Our client, like many before him, found us through recommendation and searching online for timber windows.

Problems to overcome

His property still had the original windows which, because of their age, were suffering from flaking paintwork and faulty hinges and locks. They were also leaking heat and, because they were single-glazed, condensation was a major problem. Our client’s brief was to keep the character of the house while adding better efficiency and security.

Our sales team quickly set to work and provided a detailed quotation based on all the discussions that took place. Detailed drawings of the windows and their opening angles and catches were submitted with the quotation.

Top end materials

It was a major job, as we were to change two five-part bays and two other windows, all at the front of the house. All glazing was to be 24mm clear warm edge argon filled glass, whilst the lower bathroom was to be satin glass, which offers the most modern and discreet privacy.

After a few amendments and once the final quote was agreed, the project was put into contract. Everything was listed in detail, including handle design, hinges, glass type and lead layouts.

The next stage is very important for our clients’ peace of mind. Upon receiving the first stage payment of 25%, which is industry standard, we automatically register the installation with the Home Pro scheme.

Future-proof guarantee

This is an insurance-backed guarantee offering cover against faulty workmanship or a builder going bust before the work is completed. It guarantees all future payments and the installation for 10 years. The scheme has over a million policy-holders and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

After survey, our client’s order was placed into the production phase where our Operations Department carefully checked and liaised with the manufacturer on every detail on the contract.

With a six to eight-week lead time for manufacturing, this process consists of many phases from the initial CNC precision cutting of the raw material, construction of the frames and spraying of several coats of paint to keep them in prime condition.

The installation took three days and, as the photographs show, the house now looks as stunningly beautiful as it did when it was originally built.
