Bifold doors open

Bifold door installation in London

One of our most recent projects was the undertaking of a large 6 part Set of Origin Bifolding doors with matching side lights and kitchen window. The client was spending a large amount of money on a high end kitchen refit. With the benefit of already having a large structural opening in situ the focus then turned to what could compliment the new kitchen design. To make the best use of the potentially large open space occupied by the current French doors and windows, after viewing some installations and reading through our web site a phone call was made, and we were invited to quote for the works.

On the first visit to the property we were told we were one of few local suppliers quoting for the contract. After going through various configuration options and discussing the products that would suit and ultimately make the best use of the potential space on offer it was decided the Origin easi fold doors would give the uniformed look the customer wanted to achieve. The perfect clinical profiles you get with aluminium products made them the ideal choice.

Design

The clients requested we remove the French door and windows, whilst also removing the brickwork under the windows to create a level surface running around the entire area.
After showing the client a CAD design of how the doors and windows would look, we went through the dimensions to determine the depth of the folds to neatly tuck into the recess either side of the wall. The decision was made, an internally opening six fold system with two side return windows replicating the doors themselves. With a white gloss finish inside and out, matching hardware and gaskets the order was placed, surveyed and signed off into production.

Installation

The installation took place over two days. We assigned two teams to ensure a smooth installation due to the amount of work involved. We had a one day window to secure the property after the opening had been prepared.

Day one

The objective was to remove the old timber frames and grind out the brickwork below the windows. We then had to install a 100mm thick steel RSJ which ran across the entire width of the doors to be supported by the load bearing corner posts and steel packers. This was a necessary precaution due to the timber construction of the roof and certainly would eliminate any risk of the framework above warping, moving or sagging over the coming years. This would inevitably affect the operation and functionality of the doors and potentially cause major disruption in future.

Day two

Our two teams concentrated on setting up the six doors to ensure the smooth gliding and locking operation associated with the Origin easi-fold system. There was also the kitchen window to be installed, plaster boarding, plastering, cleaning and sealing. We pride ourselves on the quality of our fitters and the speed at which they work.

Conclusion

As you can see from the pictures above we can’t imagine any products other than bifold doors occupying the space. They really do compliment a wonderfully modern kitchen and their functionality make the best use of the space available. The satisfied customer has the option to use the bifold system as French doors and open either side. However, it’s when the doors are fully folded back the connection to the garden and sense of openness really stands out. Bi-folding doors are such a great product for consumers and developers wishing to create an open contemporary space.

Origin Bifold Door Installation

Enfield windows very recently installed a set of Origin 4 part aluminium bi folding doors to a newly constructed extension in the Enfield area. This particular set were manufactured in a non-stock colour, 7031. Origin’s current lead time for primary stock colours is a five working day turnaround. For a non-stock colour they still have an industry leading turn around of twenty-one days.

The client, in this case, opted for a non-traffic door with the four folds all stacking over to one side. With this option, there is no need for lever handles. The doors are operated simply by rotating the ultra slim lever which in turn operates the dead bolts into the top and bottom of the frame.

Once the doors were installed our delighted customer could finally envisage a large part of how their new kitchen would appear when completed.  Their new doors will integrate the living space into the garden. This was a large part of what they wanted to achieve when first setting out to create a new open living space in their home.

Double glazing installation cuffley

Double glazing, Bifolding door and Composite door installation

One our most recent projects was to supply and fit the Residence 9, Origin and Solidor products to a renovation project in Cuffley, Hertfordshire.

The client was in the process of completely refurbishing their new house. At the front of the property they wanted to achieve the look of timber crafted windows without the potential maintenance issues, such as regular repainting. For the rear of the address, the aim was to achieve a modern contemporary look. After discussing our product range, it was agreed that this was best suited using the Origin range.

 Front Windows – Residence 9

Residence 9 (R9) is a product that is rapidly becoming the new alternative to timber. Every aspect of the design process of the R9 windows are based on replicating traditional timber profiles with 100mm thick frames which are 30mm thicker than standard UPVC windows. The flush casement sashes have a beautiful range of traditional and contemporary furniture to choose from. This really is the new product for consumers  wanting all the benefits of UPVC while favouring the classic look of timber.

R9 products have a varied colour range that offer a modern or contemporary look and are even available with a dual colour option. On this occasion the customer chose a two tone finish with a clotted cream exterior and white grain on the inside to match the theme of the property.

Front Door – Solidor

The front entrance door chosen was the “Palermo” in golden oak from the Italia collection. This solid double door with stainless steel handles gives the entrance real impact.

Solidor doors are built up internally  with several multi layered timber cores,  unlike their competitors that use a dense foam filled system. The weight when opening and closing a Solidor is instantly recognisable not to mention the benefits in security a solid door offers. Each lock is accredited with the “Secured By Design” branding that reassures customers the doors are safe and secure at all times.

Rear Bifold Door &  Window – Origin

For the rear of the property, the Origin “Easi-fold” system was favoured for the new bi-fold doors. Origin is now a leading UK based manufacturer of bi-folding doors and is currently the only company in the market place to offer a 20-year warranty on each door set giving you complete confidence in the product and its design. From its anti-finger pinch gaskets to its “Secured By Design” accreditation these are fast becoming the preferred set for installers and consumers alike.

This particular three part configuration supplied and fitted allows a traffic door to be independently operated for day to day use without the need to fully fold back the doors. To tie in with the bi-folding doors an Origin window was installed in the bedroom above that instantly achieved a  symmetrical look. Origin is now adding aluminium windows to their product range which allows consumers to match the products when choosing bi-folding doors as generally a window is often nearby.

The end results again speak for themselves. Every product supplied and installed by Enfield windows was of the highest quality whilst also being at an affordable price. For more information regarding our products and the services, we offer please see our brochures page or visit our showroom. We will be happy to advise you on any of our product range.

Enfield windows were contacted by the customer who required bi-folding doors to a new build extension. After shopping around and looking at numerous bifolding doors on the market they came across the ‘Easifold’ system from Origin.

Origin are manufacturers of bifolding doors produced solely in aluminium. They started producing their Easifold system in 2002 and have become a leading supplier of doors within the bi-fold market. Not only do they offer the latest hardware, safety and security but each set of doors come with their very own unique serial number which once logged with Origin offer a 20 yr warranty. This is something many other competitors are unable to offer.

After demonstrating  a set we have on display in the showroom the customer was confident these were the right choice for their property. They opted for the dark metallic silver colour an after specifying the hardware and  gasket colours the order was placed.

One advantage of the Origin doors is their unique lead times with over eight stock colours ranging from white to the more popular greys or black.  They are able to turn around any stock colour within 5 days from the point of order. This is quite unique in an industry where the standard lead time is in the region of four to six weeks.

By the end of the following week the doors were  delivered to us ready for the pre-booked installation date.

Although the installation time allocated was only one day, this is an ample amount to ensure the doors were  carefully and thoroughly installed by our professional team of installers. The finished result speaks for itself, the doors added that finishing  touch to what is a beautiful  extension  with the customer completely satisfied in the choice they had made when looking for bifold doors.

The contract was completed within two weeks from point of order.
