Stylish timber casement and sash windows installation in Winchmore Hill, Enfield

There’s a popular but false myth that timber windows won’t look as good or last as long as PVC or aluminium frames. And this latest job for Enfield Windows is a good case in point.

The photographs show an attractive semi-detached property in Winchmore Hill, north London, where we have just completed an installation that was in two parts. The first installation on some of the windows was three years ago, but you’d be hard-pressed to tell which ones were done then and which are brand new.

Dual colour timber

When the project started in 2023, the window frames were painted in traditional white, but our client was ultimately looking for a full replacement of windows and doors and wanted a colour that was a bit more radical than just plain white. In fact, he wanted two different colours, on the inside and outside.

Our client opted for Charleston Grey by Farrow and Ball for the external paintwork, while inside the choice was Slaked Lime by Little Greene Paints. Both colours are traditional tones and work really well together when applied to window frames.

A seven-part installation

The first installation in 2023 consisted of the two large front casement bay windows, the smaller front bay window, a further casement to the rear of the upper floor, along with two further casement windows and a French door leading onto the garden.

That part of the project took five days, during which our team of expert installers removed the original windows and carefully fitted their timber replacements. Fast forward three years and we returned to the house in Winchmore Hill to install three more windows – this time in a new loft conversion.

Dual colour scheme repeated

The dual colour scheme for the timber windows was the same, although our client chose sash style with astragal glazing bars to match the rear first floor windows.

If you look at the house now the original window installation carried out in 2023 looks as fresh and new as the latest work completed this summer, and the contemporary colour choices set the property apart from neighbouring houses. In our view, this just goes to prove that natural quality timber has no greater issues of maintenance and longevity than those made of pvc or aluminium.
