Internal view of timber french bay doors

Timber windows installation in Muswell Hill, North London

It’s always nice to get a big “Thankyou” from clients for a job well done – especially when our designers and installers are faced with strict conditions, like this project in the Muswell Hill area. Our client made contact via our website and requested a quotation to replace the old timber sash windows and doors at his house. The property is in a conservation area with strict stipulations that had to be adhered to.

Specification

Due to the design of the windows and to achieve a slim external sightline, a hidden spring system was suggested. Most sash windows are installed from inside to cover the box where the weights are hidden. Frames installed externally leave no place to hide the weighted section. Spring loaded sash cheeks are 60mm, whereas traditional weighted are 110mm.

Sales meeting

At the sales meeting we put together a detailed quotation on all the items to be replaced: sash windows, a side door and a large replica floor to ceiling timber French door bay window. Within two days the quotation and drawings were sent over via email for the client to carefully read and consider. We make sure the client is under no pressure to agree anything until fully satisfied.

Small details matter

The original sill to the French door bay set was curved and had to be replaced like-for-like to keep within the tight conservation restrictions. This was an important part of the project which required careful planning and accuracy on the survey. “Astragal” glazing bars were also required to match the original timber sash windows, along with the ironmongery. After the CAD drawings were agreed, showing all the relevant glass and Georgian bars, the order was signed off for production.

Manufacturing process

The manufacturing process takes up to eight weeks, during which every item is meticulously made using the very best CNC machinery. After construction, the windows go into a two-week painting phase, which is carried it in a dust-free sealed spray booth. All our timber products start with an anti-fungal sealing paint, followed by two coats of primer, then a further two coats of Remmers Micro-porous paints.

Installation planning

Mid way through the manufacturing process our operations department liaised with the client regarding delivery and installation. Two weeks before that, the date was confirmed and the installation was carried out in just four days.

Completed installation

Our client was thrilled with the new timber windows and doors and had great praise for the way Greg and Adam went about the installation, not only for their superb work but also for taking great care around the property. And we are delighted that a neighbour has now also placed an order based on this installation.

Hampstead white timber bifold doors

Timber bi-fold French doors, windows and skylight installation in Hampstead

Enfield Windows recently installed timber bi-fold French doors, windows and a skylight to this stunning property in the leafy London suburb of Hampstead.

Our client found us after searching online for “timber windows and doors north London.”  His most important condition was to retain the character of his home by installing timber units.

Many of the original windows were still in place, so adding uPVC window frames would have ruined the look and character of a house of this quality.

After sending over our fully detailed quotation and CAD drawings, the client decided to make a visit to our showroom where we have numerous timber windows and doors on display, along with an Atlas roof lantern.

Placing the Order

Our client was impressed by the quality and finish of the products and confirmed his order and contract. The following week our in-house surveyor went through all the details to arrange production of the new fittings, which included angular windows to be sited above the bi-folding doors.

Our timber products currently run on a six to eight-week lead time, as each bespoke product is carefully crafted using the latest state of the art CNC machinery. All finishes are carried out in moisture and dust resistant booths and finished using “Remmers” micro-porous paints.

Two weeks prior to delivery, the installation was scheduled in with the builder and our client.

On the first day, the installers fitted the new angled windows above the bi-fold doors and the Atlas roof lantern. On day two the upper windows were installed.  These were casement style with Georgian glazing bars. On the third and final day of installation we fitted the stunning bi-folding doors and French doors.

Value of timber

As the pictures show, the renovation was a great success and the windows and doors have contributed to a clean and bright new look. This installation was a classic example of how the use of quality timber products will enhance and add value to a property – something that is rarely achieved by using cheaper uPVC or aluminium.

On properties such as this, making the extra commitment to install timber windows and doors gives back the character and quality many homes have lost since the uPVC surge of the 1980s. In recent years, timber has made a huge comeback on period properties and with reputable suppliers using the finest production and finishing methods, your home makeover can be truly stunning.

Timber windows in Leytonstone North London

Timber sash window installation in Leytonstone, North London

There’s nothing quite like good quality windows to give your house that special “kerb appeal.”

In our latest timber window installation in Leytonstone, North London our client wanted to get rid of all the old aluminium windows in his property and replace them with original-looking timber sash windows.

After being contacted through our website we arranged an initial sales meeting to meet the client and go through all the items required and the exact specifics for the project.

Our quotation was to replace all the windows with hardwood sliding sash windows, with the frames painted in two different colours – “RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey” on the outside and white on the inside.

Quick Sales Meeting

The sales meeting took no longer than 45 minutes, during which our helpful and experienced sales rep took all the necessary measurements to provide an accurate and detailed quotation. Within 24 hours the quotation was emailed over to the client, itemising each room with its specification and the cost to supply and install.

Our timber products are of the very highest quality and are manufactured using the latest in CNC machinery and temperature controlled spray booths to create a perfect build and multiple layers of micro-porous paint finish every time. The glazing consists of a 4mm glass pane, 16mm warm edge spacer bar and a further 4mm glass pane, giving an overall thickness of 24mm. All our glazing is Argon filled, ensuring a low UV value of only 1.1.

Full site survey

After the sales contract and final order details were confirmed, we carried out a full site survey and made a series of test holes in the existing frame to ensure that the dimensions were accurate and that the new windows would be in proportion and a snug fit.

The lead time for all our timber windows and doors is six to eight weeks from our survey, although the dual colour requirements on this particular project stretched the lead time to 10 weeks. This was because each frame had to be meticulously taped during the paint process to produce a perfectly finished dual coloured window.

Flawless installation

After six weeks we were notified of the confirmed delivery date then the installation was booked in, with a completion time of three to four days. Our experienced fitting teams are highly skilled in the replacement of timber windows and doors and, as shown on all our blogs, the end result of a flawless installation is a superior finished product.

And it obviously did have the desired “kerb appeal” as we have since been instructed to replace old window frames with new timber sash at a neighbour’s house just down the road!

Bifold doors with integral blinds

Origin bifold door installation Chingford, North East London

These days just about everyone does an internet search if they want something done. Well if you Google aluminium bifold doors in London, Enfield Windows will come out at Number One!

Thanks to that online search, we have just completed a major installation for a client in the Chingford area, where we fitted large bi-fold doors and an apex window — and all in double quick time.

Natural Light

Our client wanted his new extension to be flooded with natural light, so we were just the right people to call upon.

We started by discussing in detail the desired design, colour and opening direction of the doors, along with the all important question of threshold depth for a flush and even finish.

After emailing a quotation from our in-house pricing system, our client came to our North London showroom where we have a 4.5 metre four-part “Origin” bi-folding door on display, plus all the available stock colours and hardware options.

Enfield Windows is a premium “Origin” installer with award-winning staff, fully trained to install all our products to the highest level.

Intergrated blinds

Most of our doors are glazed using A-rated 28mm toughened glass units, but we also offer internally glazed blinds which are a great alternative to hanging up nets, curtains or external blinds.  These internal blinds are contained within the two layers of glass, giving a clean fuss-free finish.

Also, from a maintenance point of view, there is never any need to clean and dust the blinds.

On this installation, electric internally-glazed blinds were part of the package. These are hardwired into the mains and operated with a neat remote control.

The lead time after survey was two weeks for the manufacturing of the window and doors and a further week for the blinds.  The installation was carried out without any problems and the client was very happy with the new look for his house.

White timber casement window installation in Pinner

Timber windows installation in Pinner, North London

A recent installation was carried out in the Pinner area of north London. The client was looking to replace the original timber windows with new modern, energy-efficient timber casement windows.

With the windows taking up a large portion of the front the house it was very important for the client to carefully choose the right product in terms of the look and finish, not to mention the thermal efficiency and security.

As mentioned in previous blogs, our timber windows are constructed using engineered sustainable hardwood, softwood or oak. In this case, the customer opted for  Meranti hardwood.

After initial email correspondence, we arranged for our salesperson to visit the property where they went through the windows and project specification in order to provide an accurate and detailed quotation.

For the fan lights, the client asked for a stained-glass design. The company we use for all our stained-glass work is one of the best producers in North London. They can replicate any original design using traditional methods, creating flawless designs. You can also visit the workshop to go through the various colour ranges available.

After the project cost was agreed and a contract signed, we requested an initial 25% deposit and the survey was booked in. Before the windows went into final production, copies were sent to the client for approval, showing all the opening configurations and final specifications.

Installation

The lead time was to be eight weeks, during which time the installation was booked. It was carried out over three days by our own skilled timber installers who meticulously removed the windows with as little damage as possible and installing the new ones to a high standard.

The client was thrilled with the new windows and the stained-glass finish. For more information please visit our showroom where we have many timber products and stained glass samples on display.

Casement timber window installation

Timber window installation in Hampstead, London

Enfield windows this week carried out the full replacement of windows at a property in the leafy Hampstead area of London.

The original timber windows which were single glazed, draughty and starting to breakdown. The client wanted to keep the character of the property, so opted to investigate their options using new timber windows.

The timber windows of today not only assist in retaining the full character of a property, but now also offer the very best in thermal glazing, security and high-performance paint. Manufactured in either Oak, Hardwood or Softwood all frames are constructed using the very highest precision CNC machinery. Each section is engineered and glued which adds superior strength and resistance from warping, twisting and swelling. This distortion often occurs on windows and doors constructed using one solid timber piece.

After searching the internet, the client came across our informative website and more importantly our blog page, which shows real installations completed in various locations over London.

A request for a quotation was sent via our website. An appointment was arranged and booked in for our sales representative who made a visit to go through the client’s specific requirements and assess what windows needed replacing.

Unlike many companies, our reliable group of sales reps work solely for Enfield Windows and do not work on an industry standard 10% commission basis. Our ethos is to offer advice on the various products and ideas rather than a harsh selling approach. We do not, as a rule, give quotations on the day of viewing from a price matrix. We like to tailor every quotation individually based on the client’s requests and property and then we send a written quotation via email. This clearly shows drawings and specifications of all items discussed. Unless the client requests differently, each appointment would be approximately twenty to fifty minutes, depending on the quantity of products being discussed.

On this occasion, we are pleased to say our quotation was accepted. After the contract was signed and a deposit was taken, a full survey was carried out. The bespoke timber windows were then put into production, with a lead time of approximately eight weeks. During this time, we arranged an installation date with the customer.

Installation

The installation was carried out in four days, and our own highly skilled craftsman carried out each replacement with great care and attention to detail. The client was delighted with the look of her new windows and called our office to voice her gratitude to the installers, to whom she had left to their own devices throughout the four days.

Sash windows north London

Sash window and composite door installation in Brent, north London

Enfield Windows recently installed new sash windows and a front door to a property in the Brent area of north London.

The client, who resides abroad and is renting out the property, decided to look into changing the original draughty timber sash windows that were in much need of replacing.

After receiving higher quotations than anticipated from the larger less personable national companies they began another online search client and came across our website.

After browsing through our recent blogs page and our reviews, she decided to call for a free no obligation quotation. An appointment was made to visit the address and take the necessary dimensions to provide a quote based on the exact requirements.

One of the client’s main concerns was to keep the original appearance of the property, using a high-quality uPVC sash window. Our Ultimate range offers atheistic details other uPVC sash windows cannot; all the joins are mechanically formed, whereas typical uPVC sash windows are welded leaving a clear diagonal line on every meeting point.

Regarding the sightlines or meeting points of the Ultimate range, the two sashes are up to 20mm thinner than the typical uPVC sash windows. This, with the added timber grained finish, gives the impression of an authentic timber window.

The front door was a Solidor composite door made using a high-grade weather resistant layer but formed with multiple timber cored layers giving strength, weight and added security.

After the detailed quotation had been sent over, the order was agreed upon. A stipulation due to the client’s absence was to email pictures of the finished windows upon paying the final balance.

The colour and style of the front door was designed on Solidor’s online designer system.

During the production process of three weeks, the order was booked in with the tenants to be carried out over a three-day period.

As the above before and after pictures show, the property has had a complete facelift.

The tenants and client were highly pleased with the quality of workmanship our installers provided during the installation.

Our team were approached by a further two properties along the road, and we are now providing quotations.

White casement front windows

Flush casement windows, front composite door and rear bifolding doors installation in north London

Our most recent installation was carried out in Winchmore Hill, north London. After searching online, the client approached Enfield Windows looking to change the both the windows and doors at the front of their property, and add doors to the new rear extension.

The products required for the rear were to be Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 Bi-folding doors and for the front uPVC windows and a composite front door.

After looking around at many companies which offer various styles, the client impressed with the flush casement windows we supply and install.

These windows give properties within this period more character than the typical uPVC windows on the market. From outside, the appearance of these frames are completely flush as would the originals had been. Also, from a price point over the Residence 9 Windows and timber windows, the cost is considerably cheaper while still offering all the thermal efficiency and security you would come to expect.

For the bi-folding doors, due to the large width of the new extension, the client opted for a five-part system over a six door configuration. This provides more glass space while also enabling easier day to day use that people commonly look for when choosing bi-fold doors.

Our aluminium bifolding doors come with a no quibble twenty-year manufacturers warranty on all working parts, giving you complete confidence in the product and of course, peace of mind.
The composite front door was selected from the Solidor range, a beautiful door with a timber constructed core. This timber core offers not only strength and durability, but the weight also gives a feel of quality over foam filled doors.

Once the cost was agreed and contract finalised the survey was booked. After the survey, the order passed to the Operations Manager who placed the order for manufacturing.

Installation

During the manufacturing process, the installation was booked in to be carried out over four days. Our skilled in-house installers carried out the installation and as the pictures show the windows and doors improved the appearance of the property.

Grey Origin bifold door

Origin Bifold doors, windows and Masterdor installation north London

Another recent installation by Enfield windows was in the North London area. We were recommended to the customer by the prestigious high-end building company, A&R Designs.

The brief for A&R Designs was to create a contemporary modern extension using high quality products throughout. Enfield Windows were first invited to the property to examine the initial requirements and to understand exactly what the client wanted to achieve.

At the rear of the property, the client wanted a large four-part set of Origin Aluminium bifold doors, opening up into the garden. They also wanted three Origin windows running down the side access, which were all part of the new extension.

In the hallway, to keep in tune with the original theme, the client opted to use the Residence 9 Window, a stunning timber replica totally maintenance free while not compromising on the features you would expect from a traditional looking window.

The internal front door was to be replaced using the Masterdor, an engineered factory finished timber door. This product is fast becoming the new alternative to uPVC composite doors.

The measurements were taken, and a fully detailed quotation was sent within 48 hrs.

The client accepted our competitive quote. They then visited the showroom to view all the products and get a firm feel for the quality each item offered.

While at the showroom the client had decided to install the Origin blinds. These are electronically operated blinds and are a great addition to any Origin product. Controlled using a compact remote, they can function independently or in tandem. They not only offer shade and privacy but add a real wow factor to any windows or doors and come in over 200 fabric ranges ensuring a match for any scheme.

Installation

After completing the contract and finalising the details, a survey was carried out. Within three weeks, the majority of the products were installed as and when  the building contractor required them.

The whole installation ran smoothly and efficiently. All items were installed by our Origin trained fitters, and the completed pictures show how the products add to the overall quality of finish to the stunning new extension.

White timber sash windows

Sash window installation north London

A recent sash window installation took part in a leafy road in the north London area.

The client contacted us via our website after searching for replacement windows online. The entire property was under renovation, and new windows were required.

After their initial contact, our sales representative arranged a convenient time to visit the property to go through the clients requirements and which windows were in need of replacement.

At Enfield Windows, our customer approach is one of complete non-pressure. Our aim is to offer high-end products at affordable prices.

Due to age and characteristics of the address the client had decided on timber sash windows. Our sales adviser went through our range of windows available, and the customer made a decision on what style they preferred. Within forty-eight hours we emailed them a full detailed quotation on all the products discussed.

Many of our competitors choose to quote on the day, commonly by working from a price matrix. We choose to tailor the quotation and offer the client an accurate price via email. This way the client can contact us once they have compared the quote and they are happy and wish to proceed. At no point do we try to hard-sell any of our products. Our expertise within the industry, high-level installers, and quality products speak for themselves.

A short time later, the client contacted us again to arrange to showroom visit so they could physically see the products and get a feel for the operation of our beautiful timber sash windows.

The price was agreed, and a contract was sent, specifying all the details we had discussed. Within days the order was fully surveyed and put into production.

For timber sash windows our lead time is approximately six to eight weeks. All our timber products are bespoke made and factory finished using microporous paints, ensuring each window has a flawless and protected finish.

Installation

Midway through the manufacturing process, the installation was booked in with the client and scheduled to last three days. To ensure customer satisfaction, none of our full-time installers work on a schedule of rates scheme. We believe each installation is unique, and this gives the fitters the time they need to carry out a first class installation.

As the images clearly show this installation was a great success and the client was exceptionally pleased with the new sash windows. Since completion, Enfield Windows have taken two more orders from customers on the same road, which will follow shortly.
