Roseview Sash windows installation in St Albans, Hertfordshire
By Enfield Windows
Sash windows or casement style? It’s a matter of taste, and in this latest installation, our client opted for a completely new look.
The house, in St Albans, Hertfordshire, is a handsome detached property that was built with timber casement (vertical hinge) windows, as were many homes of that era. But the owner decided to change them all to uPVC sash style, and Enfield Windows were delighted to take on the task.
The UK’s leading brand for this style is, without question, Roseview. Established almost 50 years ago, the product is unrivalled in finish, style and elegance. It replicates timber windows, but with all the benefits of thermal efficiency and longevity.
A major installation
The client was directed to us by Roseview to quote for this major installation — a mix of bay windows, single and double sash, along with a triple sash located in the newly created loft conversion. The brief was for a cream exterior finish, a chalk white matt interior finish, bronze coloured hardware including sash lifts, limit stop and pull eyes. These are all integral parts that make up sash window hardware.
With the glazing layouts and window furniture agreed, a contract was drawn up to label each location for clarity. Then our in-house surveyor, with over 20 years’ experience, came to the house to carry out an in-depth inspection and survey. One potential difficulty to be overcome was the depth of all the window apertures. Original timber frames are generally 90mm deep, whereas sash frames are 145mm, so this had to be taken into account to ensure a snug fit.
Manufacture and installation
After the survey, our team of order processors arranged for all the materials to be manufactured, with a lead time of eight weeks from order to sign off. The installation was carried out over six days, during which our expert team carefully replaced all the windows, as well as fitting prefinished liners and architraves around the insides of the new frames. After installation, a render finish was applied as a finishing touch to complete the new look.
This was a big project for Enfield Windows and more challenging than normal, but the pictures tell their own story about this stunning transformation.
